IFS officer booked for 'raping' woman engineer in Delhi, sent to jail

The IFS officer developed physical relations with the woman engineer, who is a resident of Thane in Maharashtra, by promising to marry her.

New Delhi: An Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer has been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly raping a woman engineer in Delhi. The officer had allegedly raped the woman in Rajendra Nagar by promising to marry her.
The accused has been identified as Anshuman Rajhans. He was arrested on Tuesday and sent to Tihar Jail. He is a Jharkhand cadre officer of 2020 batch. He has also done engineering from IIT Delhi.
Based on a complaint from the victim at Delhi's Rajendra Nagar police station, a case was filed against the accused officer on May 15. The accused Rajhans came to Delhi in 2017 to prepare for the civil services examination and met a girl during this time, according to a report in Hindi daily Hindustan. The woman engineer was also preparing for UPSC.
In the meantime, the officer allegedly got intimate with the woman engineer, a resident of Thane in Maharashtra. In 2018, he got selected for Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS).
When the woman pressurised Anshuman to marry her, he promised to tie the knot when he get a good rank in the UPSC examination and continued his preparation. In 2020, he got selected in IFS and got Jharkhand cadre after his training.
When he refused to marry the woman, she approached the police. Anshuman was on the run after a case was filed against him. He was finally arrested by the Delhi Police from Sealdah, West Bengal. The accused officer was currently posted in Chaibasa and is a resident of Deoghar.
