The popularity of Indian cricketers knows no bounds and the fans follow them wherever they go. While those who are regular in the national team tend to get more attention, Sanju Samson seems to have left an indelible mark in the hearts of fans despite being in and out of the team.
From Kerala to Ireland to USA, the fans across the globe have cheered for Sanju and now the Chennai fans showered their love on the wicketkeeper-batsman. Samson is leading India A in the three-match one-day series against New Zealand A. The Chepauk crowd cheered and whistled for Samson while the captain was making his way out to the pitch following the fall of a wicket.
The fans were anxious to see Samson bat and they couldn't control their emotions when he came out to bat. The wicketkeeper-batsman didn't disappoint the fans and remained unbeaten on 29 off 32 as India A chased down the target of 168. He added a match-winning partnership of 69 runs with Rajat Patidar (45* off 41).
Every Indian batter got a start in the chase but none of them could breach the 50-run mark. Prithvi Shaw scored 17 while Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for 41. Rahul Tripathi scored 31 off 40.
With the ball, the new-ball pair of Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Sen did the job by scalping 4 and 3 wickets, respectively. Michael Rippon (61) was the only NZ A batter who breached the 30-run mark and he propelled them to a score of 167.
After dominating the visitors in the unofficial Test series, the home team has kicked off the one-day series on a high note and will aim to seal the series in the 2nd game, scheduled to be played on September 25. The 3rd one-day will take place on September 27.
