Raipur: Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo on Thursday demanded the expulsion of senior party leader Kapil Sibal over his remarks against the Gandhi family after the grand old party's poll debacle in five states.
Taking to Twitter, Deo lashed out at Sibal saying that he must be expelled for going public "with his personal and obnoxious opinion" against the party's top leadership.
"Among the tough decisions being taken in this course correction, Mr Sibal must be expelled from the party for going public with his personal and obnoxious opinion against the combined decision of CWC (sic)," he tweeted.
He also shared the snapshot of the article which quoted Sibal saying, "Gandhis should step aside, give some other leader a chance."
Kapil Sibal is a part of G-23, a group of Congress dissenters who have been raising demand for organisation rehaul in the party leadership for the past two years since the defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
On Wednesday, the G-23 leaders held a meeting at the residence of the former Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The meeting was convened to work out the grouping's future strategy and discuss the Congress's debacle in the just-concluded Assembly polls in five states.
After the meeting, the G-23 leaders issued a statement urging the Congress leadership to initiate talks with like-minded forces to create a way for a credible alternative to the ruling BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Among the leaders who attended the meeting were Sibal, Sharma, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Prithviraj Chavan, Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor, Vivek Tankha, Raj Babbar, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, and Sandeep Dikshit.
Interestingly, the ambit of the G-23 grouping widened this time as some more leaders - Patiala MP Preneet Kaur, former Gujarat chief minister Shankar Singh Vaghela, former Punjab chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, former Union minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, former Rajya Sabha deputy chairman PJ Kurian, and former Haryana speaker Kuldeep Sharma joined the dinner meeting, besides MA Khan.
