New Delhi: As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in various parts of India the national capital today reported its highest caseload and positivity rate in several months. Mumbai meanwhile saw a 37% dip in cases - the first time after June 15 that the coastal city has seen less than 2,000 daily cases.
Delhi reported 1,060 new infections and six deaths today, with the positivity rate rose to 10.09% This is incidentally the highest test positivity rate recorded in the capital since January 24. The daily tally is also at its highest level in around four months. The death toll is also the highest since February 13 when 12 people succumbed to the virus. On Sunday, the city had logged 1,530 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 8.41% and three deaths.
Despite the rise in the positivity rate, the city government has not implemented the graded response action plan (GRAP) devised by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority since the hospital admissions are low.
Mumbai on Monday reported 1,310 fresh COVID-19 cases, a drop of 37 per cent compared to the previous day, and two fatalities. As per data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the city's cumulative case tally now stands at 10,95,954 and the death toll at 19,585. As per the bulletin, Mumbai is now left with 14,089 active cases. The number of patients on medical oxygen support is 83.
Mumbai has been reporting over 2,000 cases every day since June 15. A day earlier, the metropolis had logged 2,087 infections and a single COVID-19 fatality. The capital city has been reporting four-digit COVID-19 cases since June 7. The growth rate of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai was 0.181 per cent between June 13-19 and the doubling rate of cases is 374 days.
