  • When Florentino Perez was asked about signing Ronaldo, he gave a clear answer.
  • There still isn't any concrete interest in Ronaldo from other top clubs despite him wanting a move away.
The new Premier League 2022-23 season has started, yet there's no clarity on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. The player himself has reportedly been keen on leaving Manchester United but the lack of quality options and the club's willingness to keep hold of him has made a move away tough.
Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes is said to have spoken to a number of top European clubs about signing the Portuguese, including the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, etc. Even Ronaldo's former club Real Madrid was linked with the player but nothing concrete materialised.
When Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was asked about the possibilities of him signing Ronaldo once again, he made his feelings quite clear. "Sign Ronaldo?" The 75-year-old said. "Again? He's 38-years-old."
The Ronaldo transfer saga isn't showing any signs of an end anytime soon. It has also been reported that a number of Manchester United players are unhappy seeing the saga lingering on.
A report in The Sun quoted a source as saying: "It is really starting to annoy a lot of players now. He does have his allies in the camp but a lot are fed up with how he is going about things."
Ronaldo had joined Manchester United from Juventus last summer after rumours linking him with the club's city rivals, Manchester City. After the Cityzens reportedly pulled the plug on the deal, Ronaldo ended up re-uniting with Manchester United, signing a 2-year deal.
However, the Red Devils' failure to finish in the Champions League spots last season saw Ronaldo wanting to move on. The 37-year-old reportedly wants to play for a club that can challenge for top honours. With United, that doesn't seem like a possibility at present.
Manchester United also lost their opening game of the Premier League season at home, going down 1-2 to Brighton.
