New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and other top leaders paid tribute to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee today to mark his death anniversary.
Visuals shared online showed the three top leaders paying floral tribute to the late leader at the Sadaiv Atal memorial park in the national capital. Others including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as well as Vajpayee's foster daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya were also seen there.
"Today, on the Punya Tithi of respected Atal Ji, visited Sadaiv Atal and paid tributes to him. We remain inspired by Atal Ji’s efforts to serve India. He made pioneering efforts to transform India and prepare our nation for the challenges of the 21st century," the PM tweeted.
Atal Bihar Vajpayee was the former Prime Minister of India and was elected to the position twice in 1996 and 1999. He passed away in 2018.
A member of the Bhartiya Janta Party, Vajpayee had joined the Quit India Movement in 1942 as a student leader. He was the first non-congress political leader who became the Prime Minister of India.
He was awarded India's highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna in 2015 on his birthday - December 25. This day was also declared as Good Governance Day by the Narendra Modi government.
