Jaipur: A day after a woman was arrested in Rajasthan's Nagaur district for murdering her husband for a giant life insurance claim, her son was picked up by the police on Thursday for his hand in the crime.
Ravindra Jat, the elder son of the deceased Nema Ram Jat (57), had earlier told the police that he was away when the crime took place. However, the cops were not satisfied by the 25-year-old's statement and probed further.
According to the police, the youth tried to mislead them by maintaining that he was not around when Sharda (47), his mother, committed the crime. However, a surveillance team was able to confirm that he was home when his father was killed, the Times of India (TOI) said in a report. When interrogated further, Ravindra confessed of having helped his mother to commit the crime.
“His role was clear since his mother was arrested on the charge of murder. He confessed during a stern interrogation and said he had beaten up and strangulated his father to death,” Nagaur SP Ram Murty Joshi told TOI.
Ravindra was also involved in making Nema Ram's death look natuaral, the police officer said.
“They (mother and son) had taken a loan and purchased a tractor with the money but did not want to pay the EMIs of the loan. After the murder, they had used every trick to make the case look like a heart attack,”SP Ram Murty told the daily.
Three months back, Sharda had insured Rs 30 lakh in her husband's name. A pickup was also taken for the son, which was financed for Rs 20 lakh.
Sharda reportedly broke her husband's legs by beating him. Soon after the arrest, the woman confessed of having killed her husband.
