Trichy: A transgender was arrested on Monday for the murder of a youth in the KK Nagar area of Tamil Nadu's Trichy district on September 6.
According to the police, the accused Vaishnavi (35) of Mannarpuram killed K Baskar (28) of Poonam Palayam village in Mannachanallur town of the district after an argument over payment for sex.
The victim's body was found at Krishnamoorthy Nagar near KK Nagar on the Madurai-Trichy National Highway on September 7, the Times of India (TOI) reported.
The investigation team relied on CCTV footage and cellphones active in the area during the night of the crime to zero in on the accused, the report said.
According to the cops, Vaishnavi, who lives in Bengaluru, was in Trichy earlier the month to check on her ailing mother. When she ran out of money, Vaishnavi decided to look for customers on the highway.
The victim Baskar was returning home from work when he met Vaishnavi in September 6. He went with her and later had an argument over money. Vaishnavi hit him with a piece of wood, killing him on the spot. She returned to Bengaluru after committing the crime, the news report stated.
“Vaishnavi was the one who was roaming in the area after 11. 30 pm after other transgenders left the area on that day. We nabbed her when she returned to Trichy,” the daily quoted a police source as saying.
Earlier this month in Coimbatore, a man was held for murdering his 77-year-old landlady for reportedly scolding him.
During police interrogation, the accused Selvam confessed that the landlady Mayilathal had scolded him for showing up at her doorstep in an inebriated condition. In a fit of rage, he murdered the woman and fled the scene.
