A great-grandmother from the UK has lived in the same house for 104 years. She has lived there during the two world wars, four kings and queens and 25 prime ministers.
Elsie Allcock was born on June 28, 1918, in a terraced house on Barker Street in Huthwaite. Her father had rented the house in 1902 for seven shillings and sixpence, about £30 (Rs 2,800) in today's money.
Elsie, the youngest of five children, was 14 when her mother died from pneumonia. She married her husband Bill in 1941 during World War II.
"My mum, Eliza, died so I stayed to look after my dad. When me and Bill married, we just stopped here and never left. My dad died in 1949 and we finally bought the house in the 1960s," she told The Sun.
Elsie bought the house for £250 after taking a loan. The property is now worth £75,000.
"I’ve never wanted to live anywhere else — this is my home and it means everything to me," Elsie said.
She added, "We kept the outside loo - it still works. Very little has changed. I wouldn’t have been happy anywhere else."
Her 75-year-old son Ray said that his mother "love" the house as it is "full of memories".
Elsie's daughter-in-law, Pat Allcock, said, "The house is the focal point for the entire family."
The 104-year-old woman is so familiar with the house that she can "make my way round it in the dark."
