Pune: PMC starts door-to-door collection of e-waste

The Pune Municipal Corporation on Tuesday flagged off its new initiative to collect e-waste from households. Initially, three cars will be used to pick up the e-waste from six wards.

Pune: A Door-to-door e-waste collection initiative has been launched in Pune. The city's civic corporation launched this drive in a bid to collect electronic waste like discarded phone charges, TV, computers, and other items from Pune residents.
The drive to collect e-waste from households will be implemented by the Pune Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Adaar Poonawala Clean City Initiative and Purnam Ecovision Foundation.
Through this, Three Mahindra Trio Zor cars will be used to pick up e-waste from houses.
Residents can call helpline 7522999155 or 7507999155 for these services and can also fill out the online form to place an e-waste pick-up slot.
According to Asha Raut, head of the PMC solid waste management department, while the facility will cover the city, six wards will be served on a pilot basis in the first phase.
Meanwhile, as per a civic official, residents can donate computers, laptops, printers, mobile phones, CD player, TV, refrigerator, washing machine, microwave oven, fans, cooler, air conditioners, cameras, headphones, phone and laptop chargers, pen drives, home theatres, and any electrical items.
However, the facility will not accept tube lights and CFLs.
Municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar launched the initiative on Tuesday in the presence of other dignitaries including Additional Commissioner Dr. Kunal Khemnar, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Department Asha Raut, Adaar Poonawala Clean City Initiative CEO Krishnan Komandur, Assistant Health Officer Dr. Ketaki Ghatge, Malhar Karwande, Dr. Rajesh Manerikar, Dattatreya Kale, Mangesh Kshirsagar among others.
Initially, three vehicles will go around six wards to collect e-waste. These include Yerwada – Kalas Dhanori, Nagar Road – Vadgaon Sheri, Shivajinagar – Ghole Road, Aundh – Baner, Dhole – Patil Road, and Hadapsar – Mundhwa.
