Mumbai rain update: Heavy rain lashes several parts of the city; Waterlogging disrupts vehicular movement

Mumbai: On Tuesday morning, Mumbai and its suburbs were hit hard by wind and heavy rains, flooding several low-lying neighbourhoods, according to civic officials.
IMD predicts that until 10 am today, isolated locations in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar will likely see moderate to extremely intense rain and gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph. Mumbai and Thane are under orange alert today.
The local trains, considered as the lifeline of Mumbai, and bus services of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) were running with a delay of 5 to 15 minutes, they said.
According to PTI, there was a 5-to-15-minute delay in the operation of the local trains, which are regarded as Mumbai's lifeline, as well as the BEST bus services.
The city may see water logging if it rains heavily in the early morning hours because there will be a high tide of 4.03 metres at 9.54 am, according to local officials.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an "orange" alert for Mumbai on Monday, foretelling some areas of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
According to some residents, the city began experiencing heavy rainfall on Monday night and the intensity rose early on Tuesday morning with strong gusty winds.
According to civic officials, some low-lying locations, including the Andheri subway, were flooded, requiring authorities to redirect traffic through alternative routes.
Up to 8 am on Tuesday, the city received 51.35 mm of rain in a 24-hour period. During the same time period, rainfall totals in the eastern and western suburbs were 76.18 mm and 97.11 mm, respectively.
Throughout the coming 24 hours, the MeT office has predicted moderate to heavy rain in the city and suburbs with the chance of extremely heavy to extreme rains in remote locations.
