Hoshiarpur: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) committed suicide by shooting himself at Hariana police station in Hoshiarpur district on Saturday morning. The police received a suicide note from the site of crime, in which the ASI confessed that he was taking his own life.
Police said that they have also recovered a recorded video message which was recorded by the victim Satish Kumar, 52, before killing himself, in which he blamed Tanda station house officer Onkar Singh Brar for his death.
In the video Kumar alleged that the SHO had “humiliated” him during an inspection on September 8 and had also entered an adverse comment against him in the rozanmacha, a diary kept at the police station, Hindustan Times reported.
Senior superintendent of police Sartaj Singh Chahal who reached the crime scene later told the media that the matter was being probed from all angles to seek out the truth.
Meanwhile, SHO Onkar Singh could not be immediately reached for his comment.
This is the 2nd incident in 4 days in Punjab wherein a serving police officer has taken his own life.
On September 6, an ASI allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at the Muktsar district court complex.
Police officials said ASI Kulwinder Singh, 53, shot himself in the chin and was killed instantly. The deceased ASI was leading a police party that had escorted prisoners to court.
Eyewitnesses said Kulwinder Singh took his life using his official carbine. The ASI’s body was found near the main gate of the prisoners’ room (bakshi khana) at the court complex. Police are probing that matter also.
