T20 cricket is undoubtedly the most action-packed format of the game for fans. With batters looking to go from ball 1, fireworks are expected in almost every game. As Zimbabwe took on Bangladesh in the first T20I of the series, batter Ryan Burl showed what he is capable of in the shortest format of the game as he smashed 34 runs in a single over.
It was Bangladesh's Nasum Ahmed who was at the receiving end. He became the victim of Burl's carnage, conceding 5 sixes and 1 four in a single over. Thanks to this over, Zimbabwe went on to put 156 runs on the board in 20 overs at the loss of 8 wickets.
Bangladesh had headed into the contest as the favourites but little did they know of the challenge that was waiting for them. Barring Ryan Burl, however, not many batters had managed to do considerable damage for Zimbabwe.
Openers Regis Chakabva and Craig Ervine scored 17 and 24 respectively while Luke Jongwe also scored 35 off 20 to push the team's total to 158. But barring them, and Burl, none of the batters even managed to post a double-digit score.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh couldn't quite get a partnership going. Afif Hossain was the top-scorer for his side with a total of 39 runs off 27 balls. Mahedi Hasan (22), and Mahmudullah (27) were the other two batters who managed to cross the 20-run mark.
Burl, who was deservedly named the Player of the Match for his 28-ball 54, said he believed in taking a few chances even though Zimbabwe had lost a few early wickets.
"Obviously losing few wickets early wasn't ideal. But we knew we had a good batting line-up. It was about trusting the process, playing positive and taking a few chances," he said after the match.
