After losing Punjab bypolls, Pakistan PM's son Hamza travels to London to meet 'upset' uncle Nawaz Sharif

Pakistan news: PML-N workers were disenchanted and uninterested in the election campaign after tickets were awarded to PTI turncoats, said reports. Also, the coalition government's decisions to raise petroleum and electricity prices, rising inflation and other related factors probably contributed to PML-N's defeat in the July 17 Punjab bypolls.

Lahore: Hamza Shehbaz, the son of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, travelled to London reportedly to explain to his uncle Nawaz Sharif the party's humiliating defeat in the crucial bye-elections in Punjab, said a report on Friday.
Apparently angry over losing Punjab to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-Pakistan Muslim League (Q) alliance, the elder Sharif summoned Hamza to London to discuss the matter.
The Imran Khan-led PTI won 15 out of the 20 seats up for grabs in the Punjab Assembly last month. This was a devastating blow to the 13-party coalition led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
"Nawaz Sharif is upset over the party's crushing defeat in the Punjab bypolls last month, which overthrew its government making it vulnerable in the province which otherwise was considered its stronghold. Hamza will have to satisfy his uncle for his poor performance being the Chief Minister and his father's flawed strategy in the face of Khan's aggressive campaign during the bypolls," Dawn mentioned a PML-N insider as saying.
Even though Nawaz Sharif had been told about the "reasons" for PML-N's defeat at a party meeting, he wanted an "in-person explanation".
"Hamza will also have to explain his poor coordination with his cousin Maryam Nawaz during his short stint as Chief Minister. Hamza had not obliged Maryam to include her recommended lawmakers in his cabinet. Besides, he also did not promptly follow Nawaz's instructions when he was the Chief Minister," the insider told Dawn.
A report stated that Maryam Nawaz refused to take responsibility for the party's defeat since she felt she had done everything she could to ensure victory.
Dawn reported that her critics in the party said she wasted at least a week "thinking" about whether to campaign for the PTI turncoats. Khan, however, had launched the campaign many days earlier.
