Filmmaker Karan Malhotra, who has helmed Shamshera, has taken to social media to talk about the film's failure at the box office. The film, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles, was released on July 22 and since then, trade analysts have been keeping a close watch on the film's performance at box office. The film underperformed last weekend and its Monday performed, too, wasn't as impressive.
Addressing the film's failure, Karan took to Instagram to share an elaborate post. "Shamshera is mine," he captioned his post.
In his note, the filmmaker wrote: "My Dearest Shamshera, you are majestic the way you are. It is important for me to express myself on this platform because here is where all the love, the hate, the celebration and the humiliation exists for you. I want to unimaginably apologise to you for abandoning you for these past few days as I could not handle the hate and rage."
He further wrote: "My withdrawal was my weakness and there are no excuses for it. But now I am here, standing beside you hand in hand feeling proud and honoured that you are mine. Will face everything together, the good the bad and the ugly."
The filmmaker also gave a shoutout to the cast and crew of Shamshera, saying, "The love, the blessings and the concern that has been showered upon us are the most precious and nobody can take that away from us. #Shamsheraismine #Shamshera."
The film, starring Ranbir in a double role, is set in the city of Kaza. While Ranbir plays the titular role, Sanjay Dutt essays the role of general Shudh Singh. The film was one of the most-anticipated big screen releases of this year.
