Madhya Pradesh: Girl attacked with acid-like chemical at Durga puja pandal in Jabalpur, 10 suspects held

Jabalpur: In a shocking incident, a girl was attacked with an acid-like chemical at a Durga puja pandal in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday night. The victim has now been admitted to hospital with burn injuries.
Police said they have detained 10 persons in connection with the attack. Police are also trying to ascertain the motive for the attack. It is also not clear whether the girl was the actual target or not. Some of the accused were caught by puja committee members and handed over to police.
The incident took place in Safara area around midnight when the victim went to visit a Durga puja pandal along with her mother near Sunarhai locality, according to a report in Times of India.
Puja committee members rushed to girl's rescue after hearing her screams while others chased the attackers, said police.
Three members of the Durga Utsav Samiti apprehended three accused and handed them over to police. After the incident, members of some right-wing organisations also reached police station and demanded arrest of the attackers.
According to Kotwali city SP Prabhat Shukla, 10 persons including the main accused have been arrested. They have been charged under Sections 354 (molestation), 324 (voluntary causing hurt with dangerous weapons).
Kotwali police station SHO Anil Gupta said more stricter charges will be pressed once it is confirmed that the attackers used the acid in the attack.
