Chennai: A woman and her co-worker were arrested for the murder of her live-in partner in Chennai's Virugambakkam on Friday. The victim has been identified as 27-yer-old Vijay, a painting worker. He was murdered by his partner N Soundarya (37), a conservancy worker and her colleague D Prabhu (40).
According to the police, Saligramam-native Soundarya had moved in with Vijay three months ago after she left her husband. Vijay was an alcoholic who used to abuse Soundarya's two children aged 14 and 12 when drunk. They have had heated fights over the issue many times, The New Indian Express said in a report.
Meanwhile, the woman met Prabhu at her workplace in ward number 132 in corporation zone 10 in Kodambakkam and gradually developed a relationship with him. When Vijay came to know about this, he threatened Prabhu over the phone. The police have recovered a threatening voice note sent by Vijay to Prabhu asking him to stay away from his partner, the daily reported.
Around 10:00 PM on Friday, Soundarya reportedly asked her sons to leave the house and buy some food. She then approached Vijay, who was in an inebriated condition, along with Prabhu. “Prabhu stabbed Vijay on the back of the neck with a kitchen knife. Later, the duo fled,” said a senior police officer told TNIE.
When the children returned home, they found Vijay laying in a pool of blood and alerted a police patrol vehicle that was in the neighbourhood. Prabhu and Soundarya were later arrested and remanded in judicial custody, the news report said. Vijay's body was sent to the Kilpauk Medical College for postmortem.
