Kareena Kapoor Khan faced the wrath of a section of social media users after she dubbed Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump an 'elitist kind of classist film'. Bebo, who is starring in the Hindi remake of Forrest Gump along with Aamir Khan, had said that the audience wouldn’t come to watch Laal Singh Chaddha because it is an adaptation of a cult classic.
The Jab We Met actress’ remark did not go down well with some netizens and they heavily trolled her for it. Now, in a recent interview, Kareena opened up about getting called out for her comments on the 1994 blockbuster.
“Every day, there’s one reason or the other for which we are trolled. That’s why I am not on Twitter. I feel like it’s for people who just want to keep venting and I don’t have time for that. I’m very busy with my kids, family and work. I don’t have time for all this,” Kareena told News18.
Reiterating what she said earlier, Kareena added, “Somebody who probably doesn’t speak English is going to watch the film for their love of the story which they have come to know from the trailer and not because it’s a remake of a Hollywood film.”
“It’s being dubbed in Tamil and Telugu too so that people can watch and enjoy it in their own language, and there’s nothing wrong in that. Not everyone in the world would have seen Forrest Gump,” she concluded.
Earlier, talking about Laal Singh Chaddha being a remake of Forrest Gump, Kareena had stated, “The masses would not have seen Forrest Gump. It is an elitist kind of classist film. It's a film that the mass people, they haven't seen, so they will see it for a story. They aren't gonna see it because it's a remake of Forrest Gump.”
Laal Singh Chaddha opens in theatres on Thursday, August 11.
