Jharkhand: 3 of same family electrocuted while hoisting flag at their home

Three members of a family were electrocuted while hoisting the national flag on the roof of their house in Ranchi. The deceased have been identified as Puja Kumari (25), Aarti Kumari (26) and Vineet Jha (23). The incident occurred on August 14 at Arsande village in the Kanke police station area.

Ranchi: In a tragic incident, three members of a family were electrocuted while hoisting the national flag on the roof of their house in Ranchi. The deceased have been identified as Puja Kumari (25), Aarti Kumari (26) and Vineet Jha (23). The incident occurred on the eve of Independence Day at Arsande village in the Kanke police station area, PTI reported.
“Two women and a man died in the incident,” Kanke police station officer-in-charge Brij Kumar. According to the eyewitnesses Vineet got electrocuted while straightening the tri-colour, Puja and Aarti rushed to his rescue but they also got electrocuted, he added.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of police (Rural) Naushad Alam said that a high-tension wire of 11,000 volts is near the roof of the house where the incident took place.
“They had used an iron rod to hoist the flag. Since it was raining, the rod somehow came in contact with the high-tension wire and all three died on the spot,” Alam added as quoted by PTI. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over the deaths of the three persons.
In a similar incident, another person died on the spot while hoisting the tri-colour at police lines in Bokaro due to electrocution while two others were seriously injured. The deceased was identified as Bageshwar.
In addition, a software engineer (33) died after falling from the second-floor terrace of his building while trying to hoist the national flag on August 14. The incident took place in the Hennur area in Bengaluru, The Times of India reported. The deceased has been identified as Vishwas Kumar.
