Dengue, malaria on the rise; Delhi reports 126 dengue cases this year

According to South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), 126 dengue cases have been registered yet and the number of cases is likely to increase in the coming weeks due to the congenial weather.

Delhi: According to a civic report released on Monday, a total of 126 dengue cases have been reported in Delhi so far, this year. However, no death has been reported due to the vector-borne disease so far.
Delhi had recorded 23 dengue cases in January, 16 cases in February, 22 cases in March, 20 cases in April, and 30 cases in May. In June, 15 cases have been reported so far, till June 11 according to the report.
Cases of vector-borne diseases are usually reported between July and November, but the period may stretch till mid-December. Civic officials said that dengue cases are being recorded early this year due to congenial weather for mosquito breeding.
“Delhi recorded a total of 126 dengue cases to date in 2022, including 15 cases in June. 8 Chikungunya cases & 21 Malaria cases reported so far in 2022: Anti Malaria Operations (HQ), MCD.” ANI reported in a tweet.
Last year, 9,613 dengue cases were recorded in the national capital, the highest since 2015, along with 23 deaths, the highest since 2016.
Delhi recorded two deaths 2019, four in 2018, and 10 in 2017.According to official data, 4,431 dengue cases were recorded in Delhi in 2016, 4,726 in 2017, 2,798 in 2018, 2,036 in 2019, and 1,072 in 2020.
Delhi saw its worst dengue outbreak since 1996 in 2015 when the city had witnessed a massive number of dengue cases crossing 10,600 in October alone. Delhi has also reported 21 cases of malaria and eight cases of chikungunya so far this year, the report said.
