India finished their memorable tour of England in stunning fashion with a 16-run victory at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground. In what was legendary pacer Jhulan Goswmai's final assignment for the national team, the Women in Blue completed a 3-0 whitewash against the hosts.
Goswami marked the final game in Indian colours with a brilliant spell of fast-bowling that saw her pick two wickets and give away just 30 runs in her 10-over spell. Renuka Thakur was the pick of the Indian bowlers as she took a four-wicket haul.
The incredible Indian bowling performance was complemented by Deepti Sharma's headline act to complete India's win. With the match heading for a tense finish, Deepti ran out Charlotte Dean on the non-striker's end as India registered a 16-run win.
Deepti's dismissal has divided opinions among cricket fraternity with some England male players expressing their dismay. The likes of Stuart Broad, James Anderson, and Sam Billings have led the reactions against it while Alex Hales supported Deepti's act. The Indian cricket fraternity has firmly backed Deepti with Ravichandran Ashwin and Virender Sehwag coming out in strong support of the Indian team.
With the subject becoming a hot topic of discussion on social media, cricket fans were quick to note that Dean had been backing up before the bowler delivered the ball for most of her dismissal. In a photo that has gone viral on social media, Deepti could be seen keeping a close at the English batter doing the same thing while Renuka was bowling and many have lauded her game intelligence to keep a note of that point and bring about the dismissal.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur strongly defended Deepti in the post-match presentation and stated she has done nothing illegal. “To be honest, I thought you would ask about all ten wickets, because they were not easy to take. “It's a part of the game. I don't think we have done something new, you can always take those chances. It shows that you are aware about what the batters are doing. I will back my player because I don't think she has done anything that isn't in the ICC rules. Everything is part of the game. At the end of the day, a win is a win and you need to enjoy that,” said Harmanpreet at the post-match presentation.
