  • A video of English county side’s head coach Paul Nixon has gone viral in which he can be seen playing dhol.
Ahead of the one-off Test against England, which is scheduled to start on July 1 in Birmingham, India were up against English county side Leicestershire in a four-day warm-up match to step up their preparations for the fierce battle. As many as four Indian first-team players – Jasprit Bumrah, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, and Prasidh Krishna – took the field for the county side against the Indian team to get enough game time.
India last played a red-ball game against Sri Lanka in March this year and since then have only played T20I matches. So, in order to get into the groove for Test cricket, the four-match day was an ideal one for the Rohit Sharma-led side.
Even though the match ended in a draw, it allowed Indian batters to spend enough time at the crease and get acclimatised to the conditions that will be on offer when the rescheduled Test starts on Friday at Edgbaston.
Apart from the much-needed game time that Indian players earned during the last four days in Leicester, another major talking point was how Leicestershire showcased plenty of Indian culture through bhangra and dance to make the visitors feel at home.
And during the fourth day of the match, Leicestershire head coach Paul Nixon and Phillip Defreitas, who both played for Poms at the highest level in the past, joined in the celebrations with the performers. As the speakers at the Uptonsteel County Ground blared the Queen classic 'We Will Rock You', Nixon and Defreitas tried to play along with the beats on the performers' dhols.
The video of the duo entertaining the fans gathered to see the India and Leicestershire match went viral on the internet. The county club shared the video on its official Twitter handle, captioned, "Head coach steals the show. Head coach @Paulnico199 & England legend @cricketdaffy are a vibe."
Here’s the video:
The 51-year-old Nixon has played in 19 ODIs and one T20I match for the English white-ball team. On the other hand, Phillip DeFreitas featured in 44 Tests and 103 ODIs in which he picked up 140 and 115 wickets respectively.
