Assam: Heroin worth Rs 12 crore confiscated; 4 held

Assam: In yet another major crackdown on drugs smuggling, Heroin worth Rs 12 crore has been seized. Four people have been arrested in separate incidents in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, PTI reported.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Assam Police including CRPF personnel intercepted a vehicle in Rengma Basti in Khatkhati Police Station area on July 24 evening and seized 1,330 kg of heroin worth Rs 10 crore from it, an officer said.
In another incident, police seized 241 gm of heroin worth Rs 2 crore from a vehicle during routine checking in Dillai in Bokajan Police Station area and arrested the driver on Sunday.
Recently, Assam police busted an inter-state drugs racket and have apprehended two persons including an officer of Manipur Police on July 24. The accused persons have been identified as Thongkipin Haokip and Letmynchin Haokip. They were arrested when they were coming to Guwahati, IANS reported.
Similarly, in June 2022, the Assam Police recovered huge quantities of narcotics worth Rs. 15 crores. The raid was conducted in the Nagaon district. The team during the raid arrested two accused with huge quantities of narcotics.
During the first raid, on June 26 night, the police seized 1,360 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup packed in 13 cartons and a total of 5,328 spasmo plus tablets packed in 37 packets. The police arrested a drug dealer named Baharul Islam and seized a two-wheeler, India Today reported.
