A man told Michigan Lottery that being sent to the grocery store by his wife turned out to be extremely lucky for him as he ended up winning $190,736 (Rs 1.5 crore) in the lottery. Preston Maki, 46, said he wouldn’t have bought the ticket if it weren’t for wife’s message.
The Marquette resident bought a Fantasy 5 ticket from the Meijer store on his way home from work and that won him the prize, UPI reported.
"I was finishing up my day at work when my wife sent me a text message asking me to make a stop for groceries on my way home," he recalled. “I usually don't play Fantasy 5 unless the jackpot is more than $200,000, but I saw it was close and decided to buy five easy picks."
The player said he looked up his ticket the next day.
"The next morning, I was in the kitchen and scanned the ticket with the Lottery's mobile app and saw I was the jackpot winner! Winning is so unimaginable," he said.
Maki said he plans to share his Rs 1.5 crore winnings with family and put some of it aside for investments.
Earlier this year, another man cited his trip to the grocery store as the reason for winning a Rs 15 crore jackpot.
“I ran out of milk, and I needed it for my morning coffee,” the winner South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
He happened to glance at the customer service counter and impulsively bought a Powerball ticket. The player was in disbelief when he found out that five of the numbers on his ticket matched those picked in the drawing.
