Interpol's General Assembly logo depicts wheels of iconic Konark Sun Temple; 'filled with pride', says Odisha CM

New Delhi: In a tribute to the iconic Konark Temple, the Interpol, on Tuesday, unveiled a logo for the 90th Interpol General Assembly to be held in New Delhi, featuring the chariot wheels of the historic temple in Odisha. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to Twitter and shared the logo ahead of the key event. He also thanked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for conceiving the idea.
"Filled with pride that @INTERPOL_HQ has unveiled the logo for 90th Interpol General Assembly to be held in New Delhi, inspired by the intricately carved chariot wheels of #KonarkTemple. Thank CBI for conceiving the idea of featuring the iconic wheels for the international meet," Patnaik said in a tweet.
The 90th Interpol General Assembly will take place in New Delhi between October 18-21 in New Delhi. The General Assembly, Interpol's supreme governing body comprises of delegates appointed by the governments of member countries.
12 pairs of wheels represent time, can be used too read time
This year, the assembly will focus on a series of issues such as - The future of policing, policing today's crimes, among others. The CBI, which is the central agency to liaison with Interpol conceived the idea of the logo. The Konark temple has a chariot with 24 individual wheels and 16 spokes.
The 13th century CE Konarak Sun Temple is dedicated to Sun God. The 12 pairs of wheels represent time and can even be used as sundials to read time. The spokes of the wheels have been carved like a sundial and can help calculating the time of the day on the basis of the shadow cast by the wheels.
