New Delhi: As the Congress continues to hold protests in the national capital, senior leader Salman Khurshid's recent remarks have come under scrutiny. The politician recently asserted that he he was participating in the Congress protests to "save his leaders" who in turn will "save him" - a remark that the BJP has since criticised heavily, calling the protests an attempt to save Gandhi family.
"BJP has very bad advocates on the Twitter who give away the nervousness of their clients. Look at the substance of our cry in the streets and tell why attempts to stifle it. The idea of movement is symbolised by leadership. We will defend with all might," he said on Saturday.
Earlier on Friday, the senior politician had said that he was participating in the Congress protests to "save his leaders" who in turn will "save him". Khurshid had been asked about BJP's jibe alluding to Sonia Gandhi and her children -Rahul and Priyanka - and the claim that the party had rallied together to save the "family" at a time when Enforcement Directorate had intensified its action against them.
"Who do they (BJP) save, do they not have a family? Why would I come to save the family? I would come to save my 'neta', my 'neta' saves me. If they make that the definition of the family, then I have no problem," he had retorted amid criticism.
Khurshid insisted that the central issue was of price rise and unemployment, but asserted that he would always come out in support his leader.
Talking to reporters at the AICC headquarters, Khurshid said the Congress is fighting against the "attack on the people".
"It is a long fight and we will continue this fight. The issue is before you, there is no other bigger issue than unemployment and price rise," he said.
"Apart from that, you have a problem, I have a problem, freedom of speech is being snatched, they are all issues. But the main issue is of unemployment and rising prices," he said.
