'Remarkable': Ian Bishop reserves big praise for young Indian batter who averages 81 in FC cricket

Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop has lauded the young Indian cricketer for his sensational performances in domestic first-class cricket. Former West Indies fast bowler and cricket legend Ian Bishop has lauded a young Indian batter who has scored a plethora of runs for his state team in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season. The former Caribbean international, who is now an ace commentator, has reserved big words of praise for the young cricketer who has impressed one and all with his consistency in the premier Indian domestic competition.
In the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, many batters have surprised with their excellent performances, but one player whose name stands out from the rest is Mumbai's Sarfaraz Khan. The 24-year-old has shown brilliant consistency throughout the season and in eight innings played so far, he has already scored 937 at an average of 133.85.
In the ongoing final against Madhya Pradesh at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the former U-19 World Cup star scored his fourth century of the season on Thursday (June 23) to help Mumbai post a first innings total of 374 runs.
He was the last batter to return to the dugout and scored 134 runs off 243 balls. After yet another stellar show for the record champions, the calls for his selection in the Indian Test team have increased multifold and, according to a TOI report, he is in line for selection in the Test series against Bangladesh later this year as well.
After scoring yet another century for Mumbai in the summit clash, Sarfaraz caught the attention of the Bishop, who was watching from thousands of miles away. The former great praised the youngster’s remarkable consistency while pointing out his average in first-class cricket on his official Twitter account.
"Sarfraz Khan averages 81 in FC cricket. Yes, it’s a small sample size of 24 games, but it’s still remarkable," wrote Bishop.
Up till now in his career, Sarfaraz has featured in 24 FC matches and has scored 2351 runs in 35 innings. His batting average is 81.06 and he also has seven centuries and as many fifties to his name.
Sarfaraz is the leading run getter in the Ranji Trophy this season and has scored 937 runs in eight innings of six matches. In the previous edition of the tournament as well, the right-handed batter scored 928 runs in nine innings of six matches.
