Fresh from launching the world’s most affordable electric hatchback, Tata Tiago EV. The Indian manufacturer has announced its overall domestic sales growth of 44%. The Indian manufacturer sold 80,633 units on September 22, of which SUVs and EVs, played a big factor.
“Led by record-setting sales of Nexon and Punch, SUV sales have contributed a rich 66% of the quarterly PV sales. In electric vehicles, the company once again posted a record-breaking sales of 11,522 units in Q2FY23, registering a growth of 326% versus Q2 FY22,” said Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.
Even commercial vehicles have witnessed a growth of 22% in domestic sales by recording 93,675 unit sales in the quarter. “This growth was led by stronger sales of MHCVs and a robust recovery in passenger carriers' demand. The improving fleet utilization, pick up in road construction projects, and increase in cement consumption catalyzed the demand recovery for MHCVs,” said Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors Ltd.
However, the export of CVs has shrunk by 22% partly due to the economic situation in Sri Lanka and Nepal. The newly launched Yodha 2.0, Intra V50 and V20 BI-FUEL and the newly launched series of smart trucks are expected to pick up sales as well. “Going forward, while we expect strong sales in the festive season we will maintain a close watch on the evolving geopolitical, inflation and interest rate risk on both the supply and demand,” added Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors Ltd.
