Bijnor: A six-month-old baby girl, who was sleeping with her mother, has been dragged away by a leopard in Noorpur Arab village. The incident came to light when the girl's mother Firoza, was unable to find the infant upon waking up in the morning, as reported by news agency IANS.
Najibabad divisional forest officer Manoj Shukla said, "Pug marks and the blood drops suggest it was a leopardess along with its cub that took away the infant. We have been conducting a combing operation in the area, but have not been able to trace the child yet.”, reported IANS.
In a similarly horrific incident, earlier this week, a seven-year-old boy was critically injured after a leopard attacked and tried to drag him into the forest in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district.
The incident took place in Jujhaila village under the Hasanpur police station area of Amroha district, said officials.
The villagers heard the screams of the boy, who was being dragged by the leopard and rushed to save him. In the meantime hearing the commotion, the animal left the boy and escaped into the forest, reported IANS.
The boy suffered deep wounds on his neck and head in the leopard attack and was rushed to a private hospital for treatment. His health condition is stated to be stable now, said reports.
Forest official Vinod Kumar told IANS that the department has set up cages at different locations to trap the leopard and the villagers living in the area have been alerted about it.
