Ahmedabad: Man hacked to death by three people in road rage

Police said the issue was a minor one which could have been resolved amicably, but instead it took a tragic turn when three people on a motorcycle accused the man riding his motorcycle with his brother and friend of nearly hitting them and then went on to beat him to death.

Ahmedabad: A 30-year-old motorcyclist was killed by three men in a case of road rage. Police said the incident happened in the Kismatnager neighbourhood of Meghaninagar in the wee hours on Monday. The trigger for the fight was when the three men going on a motorcycle reprimanded the other motorcyclist for nearly hitting their motorcycle.
According to the FIR filed at Meghaninagar police station, Sumit Rathod, a resident of Naginawadi Society in Meghaninagar, was riding his motorcycle with his younger brother Amit Rathod, 21, and a friend named Dilip Shakya as pillion riders. They were going towards their home when the incident took place.
Amit told the police that the accused — Vishal Rajput and Guddu Rajput, both residents of Cheharnagar Society in Premnagar locality and one Anil Baghela from Meghaninagar — were riding on another motorcycle. Somewhere along the way they overtook Sumit’s motorcycle near Kismatnagar and forced him to stop, Times of India reported.
As Sumit stopped, Vishal and the other two approached him and began hitting him accusing him of nearly hitting their motorcycle. Amit said he knows Vishal as they work for the same food delivery company.
Amit said he told Vishal not to fight with his brother, but Vishal and the other two pushed him aside and began stabbing Sumit in the stomach. One of them hit Sumit on his head with a sword, leaving him bleeding profusely. Following this the three men fled the spot.
Amit and Shakya hailed an autorickshaw and took Sumit to Civil Hospital where he died during treatment.
Inspector Y J Rathod of Meghaninagar police said they have registered a case and arrested the three accused. All three are aged between 20 and 25 years, he said.
