Bengaluru: A poster of Tipu Sultan put up by Karnataka Congress at Hudson Circle in Bengaluru was vandalised by miscreants on Saturday night ahead of Independence Day. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D Sivakumar visited the place of the incident yesterday. Sivakumar condemned the vandalism saying 'someone is trying to create disturbance in the state.' "Someone is trying to create disturbance in the state. They are not able to digest Congress' Freedom march'," he said.
Notably, posters featuring pictures of different freedom fighters are put up by the Congress party for the 'Freedom march' scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on Independence Day. The march will begin from Sangolli Rayanna Circle and will culminate at National College Grounds, Basavanagudi. KPCC president D Sivakumar earlier noted that the aim of the march is to remember the freedom fighters for their sacrifice for the country. "It is our sincere effort to pay tribute to the heroes through the march," he said.
On the other hand, a controversy erupted ahead of Independence Day after a newspaper advertisement featuring a list of freedom fighters put up by the ruling BJP government in Karnataka did not include Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Congress leader slammed Karantaka CM Basavraj Bommai over the same saying he is 'desperate to save his job.'
"Nehru will survive such pettiness. CM Karnataka desperate to save his job knows what he has done is an insult to his father S.R. Bommai & his father's 1st political guru M.N. Roy both great Nehru admirers, the latter being a friend as well. Pathetic this is," Jairam Ramesh tweeted.
Congress leader BM Sandeep also condemned the advertisement in question calling CM Basavraj Bommai a 'puppet.' "Shame on you PUPPET CM BOMMAI The Architect of Modern India Jawaharlal Nehru's photo missing in this advertisement Neharuwas an Indian anti-colonial nationalist, secular humanist, social democrat and author who was a central figure in India during the middle of the 20th century," he wrote in a tweet.
