Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi working president KT Rama Rao on Friday said that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the new name adopted by TRS, will initially target Maharashtra and Karnataka in order to expand its activities, but its main focus will be the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
Because Telangana's model is better known in neighbouring states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka, the national party will concentrate on them, said Rao.
Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, told the media that in Karnataka, Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy is willing to collaborate with BRS. He, however, dodged questions about whether BRS would work with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.
According to him, people in parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra want their respective state governments to replicate Telangana's schemes.
KTR also refrained from answering questions about BRS's plans for Andhra Pradesh.
When asked if BRS would contest polls in states such as Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, he said that although the party's focus is the 2024 Parliamentary Elections, party president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will decide whether to contest Assembly Elections before that in some states.
The idea behind TRS going national is to take the Telangana model to the national level and bring real issues faced by people to the centre of national political discourse, said KTR.
According to the TRS working president, BRS will expose the BJP and the failures of the Narendra Modi government.
"We want to promote the vibrant Telangana model to the rest of India. We want to expose BJP which raises certain issues to polarise people to create confusion and win elections. The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are our target. We need both time and opportunity to prove ourselves," he said.
