'Idli Sambar ice cream': Zomato asks people to describe 2022 so far, unleashes horrible comparisons

“If the first half of 2022 was a dish, what would it be?” Zomato asked Twitter as the ongoing year reached its halfway point Thursday, June 30. Not a single response was unimpressive as people compared the past 6 months to some of the most deplorable food combinations to exist.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • It's only been six months but with war, climate change and political crises raging on, most people have had a long day.
  • The worst of the worst fusion foods have been used as an analogy to describe the first half of 2022.
  • From chocolate pani puri to Fanta Maggi, Zomato got more than it bargained for.
“If the first half of 2022 was a dish, what would it be?” Zomato asked Twitter as the ongoing year of the Gregorian calendar reached its halfway point Thursday, June 30.
(Only a) half of 2022 has gone by and it’s already on track to be the 7th warmest year straight in all of recorded history. We’ve unwillingly witnessed a deadly war, the biggest since World War II, a historic ban on reproductive rights, several national and domestic political crises, and are struggling to breathe in the void left behind by some of the most beloved singers.
So, if the last six months have been anything short of ideal for you, it’s because that’s where we are collectively headed as a society.
But it doesn’t stop people from finding humour in what has effectively been a real-life Stranger Things finale of a year that turned things Upside Down. Others may prefer to call it a demonstration of Murphy's Law while online food delivery company Zomato had their own way.
It asked people to describe the year so far by naming a dish and not a single response was unimpressive.
Here are some of the best reactions:
“An over oily biryani,” read one unappetising description.
“Idli Sambar Ice Cream,” said another tweet accompanied by a picture of the bizarre fusion.
Comparisons ranged from the sweet and harmless Gulab Jamun to some of the grandest gustatory nightmares to emerge this year.
One user said their 2022 so far was a “Dosa ice cream kind of unexpected disappointment” while another simply wrote, “Fanta Maggi”.
