West Indies will be without the services of their premier batsman, Shimron Hetmyer, for the 2022 T20 World Cup. The left-handed batsman was dropped from the squad after he missed 2 flights to Australia. WI have already named Shamarh Brooks as Hetmyer's replacement and the star finisher is set to miss the ICC event.
The reason for Hetmyer's absence has left many surprised but as per WICB, the player had been told about the consequences of missing 2nd flight to the continent. “This afternoon we informed the CWI Board of Directors that the Selection Panel had unanimously decided to replace Shimron Hetmyer with Shamarh Brooks in our T20 World Cup squad. Whilst we changed Shimron’s flight from Saturday to Monday due to family reasons, it was made clear to him that if there were any further delays and issues with his travel to Australia then we would have no choice but to replace him in the squad, as we are not prepared to compromise the team’s ability to prepare for this extremely important global event," the board said in a statement.
While Shimron Hetmyer is yet to comment on the matter, his wife has shared a cryptic post, hinting that there is much more to the story. The cricketer has reacted to his partner's post on Instagram.

Hetmyer and WICB have had issues in the past as well. The 25-year-old has missed many matches due to fitness issues and has been in and out of the side due to the same reason. It remains to be seen whether the latest update has a long-term impact on his absence from the national squad or not.
Meanwhile, WI have kicked off their preparations for the ICC event and they faced Australia in the opening T20I of the two-match series on Tuesday (October 5). The home team won the series opener by 3 wickets in a final-over thriller.
