When Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan hit television screens in 1987, it created a revolution, suddenly bringing deities the common Indian's had only seen in portraits and idols, right into their homes. Aired on DD National and narrated by Ashok Kumar, it had Arun Govil star as Lord Ram, while Deepika Chikhalia essayed Sita and Sunil Lahiri portrayed Lakshman. The show not only became hugely popular among the masses, but catapulted the lead pair to an almost God-like stardom, where the actors were almost revered like the deities they represented on screen.
While the show may have ended being aired in 1988, it seems like Arun Govil left an inedible mark on viewers, for even 34 years after the show ended, a recent incident shared on social media show the actor still being revered as Lord Rama.
IAS officer Dr Sumita Misra recently shared a clip on social media where the actor can be seen in the airport where a lady can be seen touching the feet of the actor and paying obeisance. While the actor seems mildly uncomfortable, he is seen interacting with the lady sweetly. At a point the lady even sits down in front of Arun and folds her hands in reverence.

Dr Misra shared the clip alongside the caption, "What is your image in the hearts of others, that is your greatness. It has been 35 years for the Ramayana TV serial, but Arun Govil, who plays the character of Ram, is still Lord Shri Ram for everyone. Emotional moment," in Hindi.

BJP State secretary for Andra Pradesh, Vishny Vardhan Reddy too shared the clip, writing, "Exactly 35 years ago, Ramayan aired for the first time in 1987. Arun Govil played the role of Shri Ram and touched the hearts of people from all walks of the life@arungovil12 ji. Jai Shri Ram."
In fact the actor had earlier once in an interaction stated thathe was once scolded by someone because they saw him smoking. Arun shared that this incident happened on the sets of a Tamil film he was shooting with Bhanumati. Arun then said that this was the last time that he smoked.
