Amidst political uncertainty in the state, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren is set to seek a vote of trust during the special session of the Assembly today. Notably, JMM and its allies shifted their MLAs to a resort in Congress-ruled Chhattisgarh last week amid fears of poaching. Ahead of the special session on Monday, the MLAs returned to Ranchi from Raipur on Sunday. CM Hemant Soren on Sunday expressed confidence to prove the majority in the state saying BJP will be 'trapped in its own trap' soon.
Notably, a political crisis has been observed in Jharkhand since a petition by the BJP seeking Soren's disqualification from the Assembly in an office of profit case was filed and the Election Commission (EC) sent its decision to Governor Ramesh Bais on August 25.
Though the EC's decision has not yet been made official, there are speculations that the poll panel has recommended the chief minister's disqualification as an MLA.
On the other hand, Jharkhand Assembly Rabindra Nath Mahato on Saturday said that the 'one-day Assembly session is called on Monday for the completion of business that was left incomplete in the previous session.' He further refuted reports of a 'political crisis' in the state.
"Governments are formed on the basis of numbers parties have...The one-day Assembly session is being called for the completion of business that was left incomplete in the previous session. There's no political crisis in Jharkhand," said Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato.
The state cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal for one day special Assembly session on September 5. The announcement came after a delegation of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) MLAs met with Governor Ramesh Bais and gave him a memorandum demanding to declare the opinion of the Election Commission regarding the decision on MLA membership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
