Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United in 2021, in what was touted as a big boost for the club. In fact, Ronaldo has scored 24 goals across all competitions for the Red Devils, thus emerging as their top goalscorer, even at 37 years old. However, the club had a horrific season, finishing sixth in the Premier League. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked mid-season and replaced by Ralf Rangnick in the interim.
Hence reports have emerged that Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy and has handed in a transfer request. He has even missed training and not travelled to the pre-season tour with the squad. A lot of clubs were rumoured to be in talks with Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes over a potential move. The leading club was rumoured to be Chelsea, with new co-owner Todd Boehly holding serious talks with Mendes.

As Chelsea have completed the signing of Raheem Sterling for €47.5 million from Manchester City, Thomas Tuchel is said to be using him as the focal point of his attack. Chelsea also have the likes of Kai Haverts, Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Callum-Hudson Odoi as their attacking options, and hence signing Cristiano Ronaldo is not the priority for them.
Chelsea are now focussing on rebuilding their defence, and are rumoured to be on the verge of confirming the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. They are also looking to sign Presnel Kimpembe from PSG and Nathan Ake from Manchester City too.
On the other hand, it was reported that Cristiano Ronaldo turned down a staggering £105 million per year contract from a club from Saudi Arabia recently.
