Airfares Flying High: 3rd Hike In 4 Months | India Development Debate

Airfares continue to skyrocket as air ticket prices have now been hiked for a third time in a span of four months. If you want to book tickets for one week later, you will have to pay anywhere between 4% and 15% more, while two-month forward bookings will cost you 6-10% more. Routes between some of the major metropolitan cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata have seen the maximum rise in fares. The surge in global crude prices and the 90% increase in ATF prices are among the key reasons driving the continued hikes in airfares. Is the high demand for a travel a case of dead cat bounce or is it because of revenge travel? Can the recovery in the travel sector sustain the rise in prices? We discuss on the India Development Debate with Ajay Awtaney, Founder, LiveFromALounge.com and Himank Tripathi, President- External Affairs, EaseMyTrip.
