From India's 4th highest T20I total to SKY's joint second fastest fifty: Stats review from record-breaking 2nd T20I

Many expected to be a rain-curtailed game, however, the rain gods were lenient enough to open up only after the match was completed as the crowd and the audiences would have been deprived of a high-scoring cracker of a game. A match where 458 runs were scored and only 16 separated the two teams, several records were broken.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • 458 runs were scored in 40 overs in a run-feast in Guwahati between India and South Africa
  • India managed to win the second T20I by 16 runs and thereby sealed the series
  • David Miller scored an unbeaten century, however, ended up on the losing side
Will it rain? Will we get a full game? Will rain at least allow a result? These were few of the questions ahead of the second T20I between India and South Africa as more than anything, everyone wanted to see a good game of cricket. However, predictions of rain and thunderstorms had created a cloud over the game, literally. Thankfully for everyone involved, most importantly the fans who thronged the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in numbers, the rain gods decided to wait and arrived only after the match was done and the crowd in Guwahati witnessed a match for the ages.
India, who were leading the three-match series 1-0, came into the second game against South Africa as history beckoned the Men in Blue. India had never won a T20I series at home against South Africa and the streak was finally broken as the Men in Blue survived a David Miller assault to defend a 237-run total by just 16 runs.
458 runs were scored across 40 overs, 40 fours and 25 sixes hit, three fifty-plus scores, one century and dilapidated figures of bowlers summed up the nature of the pitch. Hence, despite efforts from Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik India weren't safe with 237. Quinton de Kock struggled for the most part of his innings but somehow managed to stay for all the 20 overs while Miller flew and blew away the Indian attack.
