Lucknow: Two policemen including a sub-inspector (SI) and a constable have been relieved of their duty after a video of them dancing "inappropriately in uniform" during the 75th Independence day celebrations went viral, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
The two cops identified as SI Saurabh Kumar and constable Anuj were sent to the police lines after Pilibhit superintendent of police (SP) Dinesh Kumar P learned about the incident. They have been removed from duty until further orders are passed, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
In a video that was shared by news agency ANI, the policemen in Pilibhit district can be seen dancing to the tunes of a “naagin song” inside the Puranpur police station. One of them is seen moving around with a trumpet while the other crawls on the floor doing the signature ‘naagin’ step. Other police personnel from the station are also seen cheering them on, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
The circle officer of the area, Virendra Vikram, has also been asked by the SP to probe the matter and submit a report regarding the incident, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
In a similar incident earlier this month, five police officers, including a special assistant inspector were transferred after they walked the ramp in a beauty pageant in Tamil Nadu.
The beauty contest, organised in Sembanarkovil town of Mayiladuthurai district by Mayuraa, a modelling agency, showcased participants from various categories - children to young women to married - and most notably, was attended by chief guest and actress Yashika Anand who inaugurated the pageant.
A near-high profile event like that understandably employed the security services of the local law enforcement. However, the five police personnel found themselves in the thick of all action, marching to the roaring beats of “Singham”.
What followed was a bizarre, seemingly-disproportionate disciplinary action by the Nagapattinam District Superintendent of Police, Jawagar, who issued transfer orders to the said officers for taking part in the competition, as per an ANI report.
