Mumbai: Waiter stalks and sexually harasses high court lawyer in train, held

Mumbai: A lawyer who was on her way to the Bombay High Court for work was stalked and sexually harassed by a man on the local train between Santacruz and Churchgate stations. The accused was nabbed at the Churchgate station and booked for molestation after the woman called her colleagues, as reported by the Times of India.

The accused was identified as Niraj Miyan (33), a waiter in a city restaurant. The victim had used the skywalk at Santacruz East to reach the railway platform when someone touched her inappropriately from behind. Brushing it off as an accident she continued to move towards the platform and boarded the ladies compartment in a Churchgate-bound train, reported the Times of India.

The accused got into the adjacent compartment. According to a police officer, "At every station, he would get off the coach, look at her through the window and get back in,", reported the Times of India.

In a similar incident earlier this week, the Pune city police launched a search operation for a Mumbai man who sexually harassed and stalked a 29-year-old woman whom he met on a matrimonial website after she rejected his proposal. Police have launched a search for the man, as reported by the Indian Express.

The woman who works at a private company has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the man. According to a police officer investigating the case, “After their initial communication, the complainant said she would not be able to take the proposal further as the horoscopes of the two were found to be incompatible,”. The officer added, “The suspect then started harassing the complainant and demanded sexual favours from her. He also stalked her online and sent defamatory messages to her relatives and friends on Instagram,”.
