Earthquake of magnitude 6.1 jolts Afghanistan, Pakistan

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred in parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan in the early hours of Wednesday.

Islamabad: An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred in parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan in the early hours of Wednesday. Tremors were felt at around 2:24 am local time. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake struck about 44 km from the city of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan.
It was at the depth of 51 km. There were no reports of any casualties or damage. Panic gripped the region after the earthquake. Tremors were reported in major Pakistan cities, including Lahore and Multan. People even rushed out of their houses as precaution.
According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), shaking was felt over a range of some 500 km. Tremors were also felt in some parts of India. Netizens from Pakistan posted about the earthquake on their Twitter handles. One of the Twitter users from Pakistan wrote, "Massive EARTHQUAKE in Islamabad! Allah khair! I hope you're all safe! Allah Taala protect us all. Amen."
It was reportedly for the third time in a week that tremors were felt in parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan. As per Pakistan's Geo TV, on Friday, an earthquake struck Rawalpindi, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier in the day, an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred in Malaysia at around 12:38 am local time. As per the National Center for Seismology, the quake struck 561km west of Kuala Lumpur.
