Congress president election: Digvijaya Singh to file nomination today

Digvijaya Singh said on Thursday that no matter who becomes president of the Congress party, the Gandhi family will remain "our leader".

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh will on Friday file his nomination to contest in the party presidential election. The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister collected a nomination form from the party's Central Election Authority (CEA) on Thursday.
When asked if he was acting as per the direction of the party leadership, he said, "I am responsible for myself."
Digvijaya Singh will file his nomination between 11 am and 3 pm.
In response to reporters' questions about whether he would remain in the race, Singh told them to wait till the date of withdrawal.
"Why don't you take me seriously?," former MP CM responded when asked if he was simply posturing.
Twelve Congress MLAs from Madhya Pradesh will be proposers for the veteran leader when he files a nomination for the Congress president's election.
Digvijaya Singh reached New Delhi late Wednesday night after leaving the ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'.
According to news agency PTI, MLAs PC Sharma, Lakhan Singh Yadav, Hina Kanwre, Jitu Patwari, Alok Chaturvedi, Ramlal Malviya, Surendra Singh Baghel, Arif Masood, Kantilal Bhuria, Vipin Vankhede, Kamleshwar Patel and Dr Govind Singh will arrive in the national capital to be proposers for Singh's nomination.
On his way to Delhi by Shatabdi Express train, Govind Singh told PTI that he had sent the list of these MLAs to Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath.
Digvijaya Singh on Thursday met with Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor, his likely opponent in the Congress presidential race.
