Roorkee: A few days after the horrific gang-rape of a 35-year-old lady and her 6-year-old daughter in a moving car in Uttarakhand's Roorkee, cops have made little progress in their investigation. Police have released a CCTV image of a suspect on a bike. A cash reward of Rs 10,000 has been offered by the police in exchange for information that could result in the suspect's apprehension.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Circle officer (Roorkee) Vivek Kumar said that they are close to solving the case after gathering certain crucial leads using CCTV and other technical evidence. Kumar also said that the case is being investigated by seven teams.
The woman and her daughter reportedly went for a ride in a car on Friday night and they were allegedly raped by a man and his friends. The Indian Penal Code's Section 376 (rape) and the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) have both been used by the police to initiate charges against unidentified individuals.
The incident has been brought to the attention of the National Commission for Women (NCW). The woman's rights body has also called it the police's failure as they have not made any arrests yet. Police have been questioned by the organisation about why the two victims were not receiving counselling.
A three-member fact-finding team has been assembled by the NCW to look into the situation. The crew visited Kumar and other investigating police officials on Monday.
