On September 6, the makers of the magnum opus film Ponniyin Selvan: I unveiled the much-anticipated trailer after treating the audience to the first looks at the characters. Well, the day is finally around the corner, and we cannot wait to witness the magic on the silver screen.
Currently, the team is on a promotional spree, and they are traveling from one city to another to promote their upcoming film. Fans have been waiting for the film for years, and it stars Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Jaya Ravi, and Karthi in lead roles.
However, ever since, the makers released the trailer it is hogging the limelight, and we are expecting that the film will break several records. After the trailer, was unveiled, the movie was continuously compared to an internationally famous show, Game of Thrones (GOT).
According to them, this film is the Tamil version of GOT, and recently the director of the film Mani Ratnam gave a befitting reply to the netizen's comments. He told Film Companion, "Maybe Game of Thrones is English Ponniyin Selvan.”
After this, the fans went crazy, and his words took the internet by storm.
Meanwhile, during the press conference, on being asked what intrigued him to adapt this story for the screen and the reason behind his perseverance for this "dream project", he said, "The film's story is historical fiction and deals with the Chola period. It is told in a very adventurous way, quite in the space of Alexandre Dumas (the French author of 'The Three Musketeers').Kalki's writing in the novel is very vivid and that shaped my vision to tell this story on the big screen."
Talking about the film, the Mani Ratnam directorial is getting released in five languages, including Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada. The film is scheduled to release on September 30, Friday.
