New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday came down heavily upon the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for not receiving Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad airport and accused him of insulting the institution of both chief minister and prime minister.
PM Modi reached Telangana’s capital earlier today to participate in the two-day long Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive meeting.
Hitting out at Rao, also known as KCR, Union minister and BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan said, "Cooperative federalism in letter and spirit is cornerstone of our democracy. Breaching protocol on purpose yet again, Telangana CM has insulted the institution of both CM and PM. CM KCR can hide but his corrupt politics will not remain hidden."
BJP MLC N Ramchander Rao said, “If PM or President arrives at airport, CM of that state should receive them, this is a protocol. Breaking this convention is not right, we should respect the PM, he is the PM of the country, not only BJP. He (Telangana CM KCR) is scared to face the PM,” he said.
Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani also hit out at the Telangana and said he just not insulted an individual but also an institution. "He jeopardised integrity of the Constitution. Politics maybe a circus for KCR's party, but for BJP workers it is a medium for social emancipation and nation-building," Irani said in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Telangana minister T Srinivas Yadav asked why the Telangana CM should receive PM Modi.
“As per the protocol, a state representative is supposed to go and give an invitation. So, I am going there to receive him as a minister,” he said.

In a press statement on Friday, state’s IT minister KT Rama Rao, who is son of KCR, said Prime Minister Modi should study the Telangana model of development, its policies, schemes that could be implemented in BJP-ruled states which are being troubled by double engine.
"Learn from Telangana. 'Aao-Dhekho-Seekho," he told PM Modi.
The two-day conclave is BJP’s third in a southern state after coming to power in 2014. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had won four Lok Sabha seats in Telangana.
