New Delhi: A report on Thursday said that the delimitation panel has accelerated work on carving out the wards in the national capital, which is likely to be completed by November this year. Before the Municipal Elections in Delhi, each Assembly constituency in the city will be divided into at least three wards.
It is estimated that the population in each ward will remain between 65,000 and 67,000 after delimitation.
In order to speed up the process, regular meetings are being held, according to sources.
"The process of redrawing of municipal wards is going on at a good pace. It is expected that the exercise will be completed by November 2022. At least two meetings are held every week for better results and to further expedite it," sources told news agency PTI.
According to them, the panel uses digitised maps provided by Geospatial Delhi Limited (GSDL) for the delimitation of municipal wards and physical surveys are conducted only in cases of confusion regarding wards or population.
The panel was created by the Centre last month. It has three members - Vijay Kumar Dev, the Delhi State Election Commissioner who will serve as its chairman, Pankaj Kumar Singh, the joint secretary in the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Randhir Sahay, an additional commissioner in the MCD.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has informed the panel that the number of wards in the city will be 250, 22 fewer than before.
There were 272 wards in the three erstwhile municipal corporations in Delhi - 104 in each of the North and South corporations, and 64 in the East corporation.
