Kannur: The Kannur Corporation councillor and Congress leader PV Krishnakumar has been arrested after he had been absconding ever since a sexual harassment case had been registered against him. The victim was a woman employee of a congress-controlled cooperative bank, as reported by the Times of India.
A police team headed by ACP TK Rathna Kumar nabbed Krishnakumar who had been on the run and had been hiding in Bengaluru and Tirupati, among other places. Edakkad police said that Krishnakumar has been booked under Section 354 of the IPC (Assault or criminal force on woman intending to outrage her modesty). He has been granted bail by a Thalassery court, reported TOI.
The complainant has mentioned that on July 15 Krishnakumar had come to her place of work when there was nobody around and attempted to grab and assault her. However, the victim managed to escape and lodged a police complaint against him. He was also suspended by the Congress party after he was named an accused in the case, reported TOI.
Police had been on the lookout for him in places like Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Wayanad and were finally able to trace him using the location of his mobile tower signals. Krishnakumar has denied the charges though police have said that they have gathered scientific evidence that proves otherwise, reported TOI.
