India chased down a big target of 187 in the 3rd T20I against Australia to clinch the series 2-1. Virat Kohli and Suryaumar Yadav scored half-centuries while Hardik Pandya remained unbeaten in the chase. While the on-field action was the highlight, another thing that grabbed the fans' attention was the hug between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The senior duo watched the final over on the stairs of the dressing room and shared a warm embrace as soon as Hadik hit the boundary to clinch the series. A few minutes before hugging Virat, Rohit had applauded the former India captain for his effort when he came back to the pavilion.
Kohli scored a valiant 63 off 48 in the chase, and added a crucial 104 runs for the 3rd wicket with Suryakumar Yadav (69). No doubt, Suryakumar took the lead role in the partnership but Kohli also played his part and kept the scoreboard ticking.
After Suryakumar's dismissal, the number 3 batsman played some eye-catching shots before being caught on the circle by Aaron Finch. Despite his dismissal, there was never a doubt regarding India's chances as Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik were out in the middle.
Karthik scored 1 on the only delivery he faced while Pandya remained unbeaten on 25. He missed a delivery in the final over but made a comeback with a boundary to seal the series for the Men in Blue. With the ball, Axar Patel did the job and scalped 3 wickets in his spell.
India lost the opening T20I but won the next 2 games to clinch the series 2-1. The Rohit Sharma-led side failed to defend a target of 209 in the first T20I while it chased down 91 in a shortened 8-over game in Nagpur.
India will now host South Africa in 3 T20Is and as many ODIs. The first-choice players will leave for Australia after the T20I series.
