New Delhi: With monsoons approaching, it is important that you keep yourselves safe so that you don’t contract any infections or allergies that could be fatal for your health. Dengue is one such infection. Though you can be infected with the virus at any time of the year, the chances increases during the monsoon season.
Dengue is caused by the Dengue (DENV) virus and it is spread by the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. These mosquitoes are the carriers of the virus and a bite of these infected mosquitoes could infect a healthy individual. During the monsoon season, mosquitoes tend to breed and grow in huge numbers and then they might become carriers of the virus and eventually end up infecting humans. Aedes aegypti mosquitoes usually bite and infect humans during the day and it is advisable that you keep yourself protected all through the day and not just in the evening or night.
Tips to consider to keep yourself safe during the monsoon season.
  1. Don’t allow water to collect in any container or surface and allow it to become stagnant because that becomes the breeding ground for mosquitoes. The infection can spread from there and eventually end up infecting you or your family members.
  2. Use a mosquito net always, even if you are sleeping or taking a nap during the day, make sure to always put the mosquito net before you sleep.
  3. Use mosquito repellents as much as possible. You also get these repellents as rollers and sprays which you could use on your clothes so as to keep the mosquitoes away. Make sure you use them so as to avoid chances of infection.
  4. Put up mosquito net screens on your windows so as to stop the mosquitoes from entering your homes. This will not just keep away mosquitoes but will also keep away other flies and insects that might spread other diseases and infections. And if you already have these window screens put up, make sure that they don’t have any holes in them.
  5. If you use coolers, make sure to change the water and clean the tray everyday. Even the tray could become a place for mosquitoes to breed if it is not cleaned everyday.
